Шай Голан, выпускник хайфской Академии Дизайна и Образования (!), изучает влияние сортов ивритского шрифта на будущее израильского общества. Ни больше ни меньше.

Дело в том, что книги и другие бумажные тексты обычно набирают традиционным шрифтом FrankRuehl, а компьютерные - упрощенным Arial (под катом можно увидеть разницу). Теперь, разумеется, процент текстов, набранных этим ужасным геометрическим шрифтом, сильно возрос. По мнению Голана, это приведёт к страшным последствиям. Вот какой гениальный "эксперимент" он поставил (выделено мной):

"The FrankRuehl and Arial fonts are used for long texts, and whole generations were raised and educated on them," Golan says. "I tried to examine what the new generation experiences in reading Hebrew. I took the letter gimmel of FrankRuehl and the letter gimmel of Arial and wrapped them in white cloth. I removed the letters from the cloth and was left with each letter's general representative form. You can see that the FrankRuehl gimmel left the cloth stretched upward, as though trying to raise it and stand erect despite the weight of the cloth. In contrast, the Arial gimmel looks bent and bowed, almost apologetic, as though the cloth subdued it. Analyzing this small experiment, I can say that whole generations who read proud, erect Hebrew have given way, without our noticing it, to a generation that reads bent, bowed and apologetic Hebrew."

Дальше - Апокалипсис, вырождение нации (а чего ж ещё ждать от арийского-то шрифта:))):

"This is a very worrisome phenomenon in Hebrew script. It makes our eyes - even if we are not aware of it - stop for a moment, lose the direction of the text and slow down and reduce the pace and quality of reading," Golan maintains. "The direction of the openings in the letters, which indicates the direction of reading, is also slowly changing, and drawing inspiration from the world of foreign languages... If it's more difficult for the new generation, which grew up with Arial, to read the language it speaks, it stands to reason that its members will read less complex texts, and if it reads less it also stands to reason that at a certain stage we, as a society, will remain stuck in place."
